Community Outreach
Ann Arbor Dance Works is committed to sharing the art of dance with the community by offering performances, master classes, lecture demonstrations and workshops in public and private institutions. Elementary school students learn about the basic elements of dance through watching a performance or participating in creative movement workshops with company members. Senior living communities have the opportunity to see a performance in their facility and to learn about the creative process.
"The dance program at Mitchell was absolutely wonderful today. I have had such great feedback from the other staff members, all telling me how engaged our kids were. The PE teacher and I took the kindergarteners together right afterwards and played some movement games. Kids were trying out lots and lots of moves that they saw on stage....clearly even they were immersed in the performance. Thank you so much for coming to Mitchell. You are wonderful dancers and you gave us a great show."

"This dance group, Ann Arbor Dance Works, came to Carpenter and did a fabulous job! They worked with four of my classes during one period - each in a different location - with movement - mirror, echoing, beat, gestures, expression, choreography and FUN! I highly recommend you booking them for your school! My students loved the workshops, and were mesmerized by the performance! And this, at a time of year where the students have other things on their minds! Jessica and her staff are great to work with - flexible, knowledgeable, capable and the epitome of fitness!"
Laura Machida, Music Teacher, Carpenter Elementary School, Ann Arbor, MI
“This year, I have to say, you really outdid yourselves with Corsets, Grains, & Greenways! As we all missed seeing the live performances downtown, we were especially fortunate to be able to experience an indoor version of them at Glacier Hills. As always, your commentary and PowerPoint images added dimension to the program. We appreciate your informed yet casual style of presentation. Your enthusiasm for the Company and its dancers is obvious, and also obvious is their dedication to you. Being able to enjoy the very fine Resident Professional Dance Company of the University of Michigan Department of Dance has been a treat for the residents these years, and performances we always look forward to with great pleasure.”
